Resolutions of Wonder Women

Let me just put this out there: New Year's resolutions are tough to keep. Factor in a busy life, craziness at work, trying to be the best momma, wife, sister, daughter, etc. and the resolutions to work out more, eat better, and lose weight just don't seem to happen. So rather than resolving to do those things this year, I think I've come up with a better resolution: work to find balance.

Balance in work and home.
Balance in momma and wife.
Balance in working toward healthy but not stressing over a few slip-ups here and there.
Balance in working hard and playing hard.

Here's what I'm hoping these will help me accomplish:
-leaving a little more work at work...maybe staying at work for 15 minutes more can help me be a better momma later that night.
-making time to workout, but not stressing when it doesn't happen.
-making time to grab dinner - just me and the hubs - and knowing that our peanut will be ok with the babysitter (aka Grandma and Grandpa).
-being less stressed and therefore a happier momma, wife, co-worker and friend!

Happy 2012!

More ovaltine, please.

Remember those corny commercials for Ovaltine that you always hear on the radio? "More Ovaltine, please!"  Well, when I was pregnant my mom just happened to bring over a jar of Ovaltine, claiming it was WONDERFUL to eat and WONDERFUL for you.

Ok, Mom.

But she was right (aren't they always?).  The only problem: as I got further into my pregnancy dairy products sounded d.i.s.g.u.s.t.i.n.g.  So after having Liza and having returned to a lover of milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream, I was thinking of some chocolate milk and saw the Ovaltine hanging out in the cupboard this morning.  Then I realized I hadn't eaten breakfast.

And this is where the newest version of Chocolate-PB Oatmeal began (You can check out my first version back on the old blog, here).  Even though I'm enjoying Christmas break, this is DEFINITELY something you could pre-portion and take with you to make at work.  Plus, if you use REAL rolled oats compared to the over-priced package stuff, you're sure to get some added nutritional benefits such as fiber and iron (here's more on that)  and it seems to do the trick to keep me filled up till lunch.  Add that to the fact that it tastes like a hot no-bake cookie and I'm sold :)

Here's how it's done:

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup oatmeal
1 cup water (or milk or use half water, half milk)
3.5 Tablespoons Ovaltine
1 Tablespoon (heaping) Peanut Butter (I make my own...more on that soon)

STEP-BY-STEP:
[1] Mix the oats and liquid in a big microwave safe bowl (I use an over-sized coffee mug).
[2] Microwave for 3 minutes.
[3] Mix in Ovaltine and peanut butter.
[4] Let it cool for a bit, then enjoy.

A few oatmeal tips & tricks:
--I bring a big bag of rolled oats to work.  That way, I can just pour some into my mug (that also stays at work).
--Have a water cooler where you work?  Use the hot tap water and then you don't need to microwave for quite so long.
--Pre-portion Ovaltine and pb in small containers and then you have a quick, filling breakfast for the week.

Disclaimer: we were not paid or perked by Ovaltine.  They probably don't even know we exist...we just like the stuff.

What We're Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, kids!  It's almost Christmas time...so here are a few things we're loving:

{1}
Shopping Local.
We've made an effort to support our local shops (and therefore our local economy) this holiday season. The cool promotion effort in our little town (check it out here), hopefully has others doing the same!

{2}
Kiddos with Santa Claus.  Does it get any better? (Answer: No.)

Not sure who is more excited!

She's still not sure how she feels about the big guy!

{3}
Christmas Break.  Finally a little downtime to relax with our families.

What are you loving today??

We did it.

Well, we finally did it.  It all started with blogs of our own.  Those ended (or we went MIA) when babies came along.  So what better way to keep the good news rolling then to team up and share the love?  Since this is our first post, hopefully we can give you a taste of what you might find here...
  • Topics in momma-hood
  • Food, Recipes, Meal Plans (oh my!). Together we are perfecting the art of the home-made freezer meals using organic, local ingredients.
  • Tips on how we find balance, or try to anyways...
  • Products we love (slash swear by)
  • Random rantings from crazy momma brains
Hope you like what you read!
